AI, Opportunity, and Growth: Key Takeaways from OFFCON 2026

Echoes of the Past, Visions of the Future:

I attended OFFCON 2026.

I had a free ticket, and it felt like I had to go.

Looking back, my freelance journey feels like a quiet reflection of how much our industry has evolved.

OFFCON 2026, sitting in the crowd again, learning

Somewhere between sessions, I was reminded how small this world really is.

I met Ken-ken Somera in person for the first time. We had only worked indirectly through Social Media Academy before. After years of being online, we finally crossed paths offline. It felt grounding and full circle.

One story stayed with me.

CJ Cajoles shared that she has been freelancing for 15 years. Her marker was simple. Her child is now 14.

I paused.

I was sitting there at 35 weeks pregnant, listening to her, realizing that the life I am building and the work I am doing can grow together.

This journey is not separate from our personal lives. It moves with it.

Here are the shifts that stayed with me from the event:

AI is changing the way we work. But it is not replacing entire jobs. It is reshaping tasks.

Commodity work is shrinking. AI-adjacent roles are growing.

The real advantage is still human. Caring deeply about what you do. Understanding people. Managing relationships.

To stay relevant:

Focus on demand, not just clients

Build a living portfolio that reflects real work

Use your own data, taste, and experience as your edge

Mindset matters more than ever.

Every technology shift creates new opportunities.

We can focus on what is disappearing.

Or we can stay curious and lean into what is becoming possible.

We are entering another window for early adopters.

The combination of expertise and digital assets is powerful.

Products like software, ebooks, and digital resources can scale beyond time. But building them is only the beginning. They require intention, marketing, and continuous support.

One activity during the event stood out.

We were grouped with strangers and asked to share a specific goal. Then we helped each other find it.

It reminded me that clarity is important. Knowing what you want matters.

But there is also something powerful in helping others. It shifts your focus outward. It creates a different kind of energy.

Before the day ended, I had a quiet realization while talking to my seatmate.

Money is energy.

You can exchange your time and skills for it.

But sometimes, you use your time to nourish your soul.

To show up. To learn. To connect.

You may not be paid in money.

But the return comes in other forms.

And sometimes, that kind of value lasts longer.

Special Thanks to Nikki Jurado-Mancilla and her Patatas Fam for the ticket!
