Japan 2023: An Adventure Through Nagoya, Tokyo, Yokohama, and More

Japan has a way of capturing your heart with its blend of tradition, modernity, and quirky charm. My 14-day journey in October 2023 through Nagoya, Tokyo, Yokohama, and other hidden gems was nothing short of magical. From exploring anime hotspots to immersing myself in nature, each city offered its own unique experiences that I’ll cherish forever.

Day 1-3: Nagoya – A City of Surprises

My adventure began with a smooth flight from Manila to Nagoya, arriving at Chubu Centrair International Airport. After picking up my SIM card at the Central Japan Travel Center, I made my way to the Nagoyaeki Access Hotel, a cozy base for my first few days in Japan.

Key Highlights in Nagoya:

  • BIC CAMERA Nagoya Station West: A tech lover’s paradise.
  • Esca Underground Shopping Center: A maze of shops and eateries beneath the station.
  • Animate Nagoya: Heaven for anime enthusiasts.
  • Makino Park: Perfect for a peaceful stroll to enjoy nature.

Nagoya was the perfect blend of urban excitement and serene parks, setting the tone for the rest of my trip.

Day 4-5: Tokyo – Neon Lights & Cultural Charm

Next, I hopped on a train from Nagoya to Tokyo, checking into the Grand Park Hotel Panex in Kamata. The bustling streets of Tokyo offered everything from shopping districts to tranquil green spaces.

Tokyo’s Must-Visit Spots:

  • Shinsakongawa Water Park & Kasai Rinkai Park: Nature-filled retreats with beautiful bird watching opportunities.
  • Shibuya: Home to the famous Hachiko Statue and vibrant streets filled with fashion and fun.
  • Odaiba: A futuristic wonderland with the Gundam Statue, Tokyo Water Science Museum, and stunning views of the Rainbow Bridge.

I particularly loved Odaiba’s Gundam Statue, which was larger than life, and the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building in Shinjuku, where the view from the observation deck was breathtaking.

Day 6-7: Yokohama – Port City Delights

After my Tokyo adventure, I made my way to Yokohama, where I checked into Hotel Edit Yokohama. Yokohama, with its harbor views and amusement parks, was the perfect place for relaxation.

Yokohama Highlights:

  • Sky Duck Counter: A fun and unique way to explore the city on land and sea.
  • Yokohama Port Museum: A fascinating glimpse into the city’s maritime history.
  • Cosmoworld: A fun, family-friendly carnival that’s a treat for all ages.

Yokohama’s charm lies in its waterfront, perfect for evening strolls and enjoying the cool sea breeze.

Day 8-11: Shibuya, Shinjuku & Akihabara – The Anime Capital

Back in Tokyo, I dove deep into Tokyo’s most famous districts, and Akihabara was a true highlight for any anime fan like myself. I explored various stores, including Surugaya, Mandarake Complex, Animate, and the Tokyo Anime Center.

Shibuya was also filled with excitement, from visiting Nintendo and Capcom stores to exploring Miyashita Park and Parco 6F. The vibrant Shibuya Crossing and iconic Hachiko Statue never failed to dazzle me with their energy.

Day 12-14: Nagoya – Ending with a Bang

I returned to Nagoya for the final leg of my trip, staying at the Hamilton Hotel Blue Meiekiminami. Here, I continued to explore the city’s lively streets and rich culture, soaking in everything from Sunshine Sakae to Oasis 21, with its stunning water features and futuristic architecture.

Nagoya’s Final Highlights:

  • Pokemon Center Nagoya: A must for any Pokemon fan, featuring exclusive merchandise and fun experiences.

  • Miwa Shrine: A peaceful and spiritual retreat in the middle of the city.
