By <a href=\"https:\/\/jemmarieann.com\/portfolio2015\/blog\/\">Jemmarie Bocalbos<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Then (2018): AI on the Horizon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I first wrote The Rise of Artificial Intelligence in Design &amp; Marketing back in 2018, the tools were new, the hype was loud, and the future felt equal parts thrilling and intimidating.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I was experimenting with the Adobe Creative Suite \u2014 particularly Adobe Photoshop powered by Adobe Sensei. There wasn\u2019t generative fill yet, but content-aware fill already felt revolutionary. I also stumbled across platforms like Inspirobot (yes, the AI quote generator that spit out hilariously unhinged motivational posters). Meanwhile, Google Duplex made headlines by mimicking human phone calls \u2014 raising both eyebrows and expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Everyone in creative and marketing was asking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIs this going to replace us?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And honestly? I didn\u2019t have a clear answer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I did have was curiosity. I wanted to understand what this meant for designers, marketers, and creatives who relied on empathy, storytelling, and instinct \u2014 things AI couldn\u2019t replicate. Not then, and arguably, not now either.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>My take at the time was this: AI can support creativity, but it can\u2019t be creativity. That belief still holds true today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now (2025): AI in the Studio, Not on the Sidelines<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fast forward to 2025 \u2014 AI isn\u2019t just a conference buzzword anymore. It\u2019s in the creative room with us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, I use tools like Adobe Firefly, AI-powered Adobe Express, and Canva\u2019s Magic Studio for design output. For brainstorming, ideation, and even sales enablement tasks, ChatGPT has become a reliable collaborator \u2014 helping me shape messaging, write outreach emails, and process raw thoughts into clarity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With AI, what used to take hours of iteration now takes minutes of intention.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s no longer about replacing human creativity \u2014 it\u2019s about amplifying it. I now have a brainstorming buddy that\u2019s objective (mostly), always available, and always ready to bounce back ideas. Of course, I stay mindful of AI\u2019s inherent biases, but as long as I guide it with purpose, it helps me move faster and think wider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In marketing workflows, AI has shifted from novelty to necessity. Smart captioning, dynamic ad versions, real-time insights \u2014 these aren\u2019t futuristic anymore. They\u2019re the new normal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But here\u2019s the thing: The value hasn\u2019t shifted from the human to the machine. If anything, the human perspective has only grown in value.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI can give you 50 versions of an idea. But it can\u2019t tell you which one actually feels right.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What\u2019s Changed \u2014 and What Hasn\u2019t<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adaptability is non-negotiable. Tech is evolving faster than we can document it. Rigidity isn\u2019t safe \u2014 it\u2019s stifling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learning is the new creative currency. I may not have all the answers, but I\u2019ve learned to test, unlearn, and relearn. That mindset has opened more doors than any diploma.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Empathy still leads. AI can generate \u2014 but it can\u2019t feel. That\u2019s still our job. And that\u2019s what makes our work matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What I\u2019d Tell My 2018 Self<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI is a threat to some roles \u2014 especially repetitive tasks and entry-level automation. But next-level creative thinking? Deep human interaction? That\u2019s not where AI is yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s where upskilling comes in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One model I admire is Singapore\u2019s SkillsFuture Level-Up Programme \u2014 a government initiative that gives Singaporean citizens aged 40 and above a S$4,000 credit to pursue career-relevant training. It\u2019s a clear national investment in adaptability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Closer to home, through Creative Nation Academy, Danesign Learning, Likha na Dito, and MMAAP, we\u2019ve been contributing in small but meaningful ways \u2014 helping Filipino creatives stay competitive, curious, and connected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When in Doubt\u2026 Create Like a Human<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Use AI. Push it. Play with it. But don\u2019t lose the thing that makes your work matter:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Empathy. Experience. Perspective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s still your superpower.
