Social Media with the root word social and defined as an informal social gathering, especially one organized by the members of a particular club or group was really lived and embodied by the FIRST EVER Social Media Academy Grand Meet-Up
Last April 14, 2018 something special happened. It’s when the FIRST EVER Social Media Academy Grand Meet-Up Happened. It happened in Sagul Food Park in Quezon City and it was most certainly a great and inspiring experience for me. To finally meet students who learned from me and share my thought with them.
Disclaimer: The photos are not taken by me. These are the photos shared in the group. I still need to improve my skills in asking and taking photos so my next blog post will have photos taken by me *chuckles*.

The exchange of ideas and stories was value pack in itself. I arrived there by myself and at first I didn’t know what to do. Thankfully Batch 3 students who were staying by the stair entrance were there to welcome me. Slowly I was able to open up and relax and just simply talk with them and go with the flow.
Food and drinks were abound thanks for the generosity of our founders Melissa Profeta and Nix Eniego
Grilled meat and innards with salted egg were very yummy.
Group Photo with the very beautiful Cons!
I go the event at around almost 7pm because it was a payday Friday. There was already a high energy going around. It was amazing. I invited my friend Levi and she arrived later on at around 8pm. She brought her friend Miles (Zeamay)During this time I already started mingling with everyone and I’m glad Levi and Zea were able to have conversations too.
Topics varied from Instagram Content Rights and how most Social Media Platform have a section in their terms of agreement in which you agree that these sites can use your content.
My response to this is you measure the potential you will lose with the risk that these social media platforms will actually use and make money from your content.
I also shared how I decided to teach and why I think Teaching is my Ikigai: The Japanese Secret to a Long and Happy Life.
Ikigai is the intersection between :What you love, What you care about, What the world needs, What you can get paid for.
I love to share my thoughts and I care about leaving a part of myself in this world as I realized that life is fleeting. I think the world needs information to adapt and evolve as it changes.
Teaching motivates me to keep on learning so I can keep on teaching. I believe that education can change the world and make it into a better place. One person can’t change the world alone but if I as one person can teach and educate people and then they in turn teach other people and spread the knowledge I’m hoping that someday a better educated world will become a better world.
As for getting paid for it. Mainly my source of income right now is my Full Time Job as a Creative Design Specialist but I believe I am learning a lot from my work while I get paid; Which in turn I can teach and also get paid. I’ve done part time gigs with Creative Nation Academy Twice Last 2017 and Social Media Academy also pays me for my video contributions.
I also kept on talking about my quarter life crisis because someone from Batch 3 was only 21 years old and I’m very proud that someone is already investing in himself at a young age.
My quarter life crisis actually came at 22-24 years old a bit earlier than 25. I wondered if I will stay where I was all of my life and a lot of things happened then such as our eviction from our home and my sister’s cancer diagnosis. I learned a lot that life is not perfect and many things will be beyond your control but what is important is you keep on moving.
Topic also included the possibility of AI (Artificial Intelligence) taking over many of the jobs we have today for which my answer was that humans will never run out of things to do to get paid. AI (Artificial Intelligence) cannot possibly take all of the human jobs as long as you keep on learning. Once Artificial Intelligence get a solid footing in the job industry then become a person who develops AI or maintains an AI. As of now they are trying out AI in the customer service industry but the current results is that people still prefer to talks to a human to air their problems. Possibly because current Ai hasn’t learned empathy. In the future they are developing AIs with emotions but it remains a question if it can totally react the same way as a human when it comes to emotions like customer service.
In the end keep on learning and keep on developing so that you do not get left behind, investing in yourself is the best thing you can do for YOU.
At around 9:30 Levi and Zea left and a lot of the participant has also left but I . took this chance to talk with Cons and Kristine and our topic were very vast from the lost agricultural opportunities of the Philippines to passing the business knowledge to family members. Before I knew it, it was 11pm and we all booked a Grab to go home.
It was an experience to remember. To be able to interact with my students and when I hear words of encouragement and inspiration also words of gratitude and praise, those become my fuel to keep on doing what I do. Have any events where you think my presence would be valuable? Feel free to Invite me.
