Family’s are the foundation of every human person that is born into this world. A Family affects how a person develops and matures. There are many studies in which concludes that children who grow up in a warm and tight knit family develops better relationship as they grow up. A Dictionary defines a family as a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household but I personally believe that a Family can be defined as something else.

In Lilo and Stitch a family is defined as “Ohana”. Ohana means family and family means nobody gets left behind. For me any person or any group of people who will be there for you to support you and raise you up can be your family. They don’t exactly have to be human either. In the anime movie Princess Mononoke, San was raised by a wolf god. In Tarzan, Tarzan was raised by apes.
This is why I believe we can also consider our pets as family because they are there as our emotional support and although not in a conventional way our pet gives us strength to wake up everyday and look forward to a new day.
Then, there are single parents, Same sex parents family, adoptive homes or orphanages. These might not be the conventional definition of a family but as long as they support each other and raise each other up they are a family nonetheless and one that is worth celebrating.

My family life is personally not perfect either. In my Mother’s Day 2018 blog post a tribute to my mother I have already mentioned that my parents were separated. I was raised by a single parent with the help of my relatives. It’s not that my dad didn’t help in raising me up he actually did. At some point he was the one who was bring me to school and taking me home after school. I have grew up in a family that was embroiled in a complicated situation and it was not easy. We had all sorts of financial and emotional turmoils but now as an adult I am just thankful that I was able to grow and realize things.
There is no perfect family but its struggling together and loving each other that will really define the family.
